1: How long have you been involved in photography?
For about 25 years,

2:Equipment you use?
I started with an Olympus rangefinder and got my first film SLR about 20 years ago. I moved to digital about a year ago and am really enjoying my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. I still like to use my film camera (a Canon Elan 7) and in that mostly use Fugi Provia 100 and 400 slide film. My favorite lens include a Tokina 12-24 mm wide angle zoom, a Tamron 28-300 zoom (my walk around lens) and a fixed 90 mm Tamron f2.8 macro.

3:PC or Mac?
PC.

4: What inspires you?
I am inspired by the outstanding and amazing work of Jim Brandenburg and John Shaw as well as from Lake Superior and its surrounding forests, wildlife and rivers.

5: Prefered subject matter?
Obviously, I really love Lake Superior and its many moods as well as the many beautiful and historical lighthouses that dot the Great Lakes protecting ships from dangerous headlands and reefs. I love to “capture” the critters and birds that visit my garden and backyard. And when I travel I can’t resist trying a street shot or two...nothing like that to remind me of the wonderful places and people that I have seen and met.

6: Name one thing you haven't caught with the camera that you REALLY want to capture.
A gray wolf.

7: When in doubt about your art, who do you confide in?
My wife.

8: Qualifications/training in anything? ie: Photoshop
I have taken a local workshop or two but basically I would say that I am self-taught..

9: Plans for the future?
To continue to improve my photographic skills, take a professionally led field seminar and most importantly continue to enjoy making pictures and life in general.

10: In one word, describe your photography.

1: How long have you been involved in photography?
Well, I´ve been involved in photography since I was a kid, about 8 or 9 years old. My grandfather gave me a “blue Yashica/Kyocera” as a Christmas gift in 1984, so, since then I´ve been playing with photography. But I´ve been taken it very seriously since January 2006.

2: Equipment you use?
I use a FujiFinepix S5600 girl named Clotilde.

3: Mac or PC?
PC.

4: What inspires you?
Life inspires me a lot…colors, faces, people and architecture and it´s details.

5: Prefered subject matter?
People, I guess…I think it´s very difficult to take people´s picture…they are always in movement, and you have to be FAST enough to register a unique moment…a face, an expression...of course that a good camera helps a lot.

6: Name one thing you haven't caught with the camera that you REALLY want to capture.
Ah…there is one thing that I haven´t caught yet…a lightning!

7: When in doubt about your art, who do you confide in?
Well…I have some friends here in Belém (State of Pará, Brasil) and I talk with them about my own photographs sometimes…but I think the best thermometer for a pic is Flickr! There a lot of people can express what they think about your art! So I guess the best way to “kill” a doubt about my photographs is exposing it in Flickr!

8: Qualifications/training in anything? ie: Photoshop
Well…I like to add some “effects” in my photographs using PS…but I definitively am not an expert.

9: Plans for the future?
Yes! I wanna buy a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 this year.Maybe I´ll buy in my vacations at São Paulo (now in July). I´m planning to buy a Canon EOS Rebel XT 8.0 next year, and some good lens for it!

Parc Cruz

FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER: Parc Cruz

These children are Aeta natives, born in the vicinity of Mt. Pinatubo, which last errupted in the Philippines in the 90's and left a whole province with devastation. When the volcano errupted, the Aetas who lived in the mountains (whom have never had a taste of civilization, as we know it), were displaced and had to come down from their comfort zones. Some of the Aetas have come to accept living in urban communities but there are those that still remain near the volcano, because that's what is home for them. There, life for them is more harsh and more impoverish. These children, they never had to experience the erruption, but are now experiencing the effects of it. Even then, Aeta natives are beautiful people. They are naive and yet they seem to know how to enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Thank you Parc for being our very first!
1: How long have you been involved in Photography?
A: I started last July 2005, I'm turning one next month, in this hobby. I have long been interested with it but never got around to starting photography since I didn't have any background. But I thought I could try with a point and shoot first and I am hooked since.

2: Equipment you use?
A: I started with an A95Canon point and shoot after three months, I decided to go DSLR and got my self a Canon 350D. I still use both cameras

3: Mac or PC?
A: Both but I am more partial to PC.

4: What is your inspiration?
A: My inspirations are David Nightingale & Steve McCurry. I am inspired by many European photographers whose galleries I frequent only. I am also inspired by films I watch.

5: Preffered subject matter?
A: I have many moods, I tried all aspects but right now, I'm very hooked on portraits and people. Something which I was hesitant to do before because I didn't know how to approach a live, talking subject. I still don't have the right skills for that up to now.

6: Name one thing you haven't caught with the camera that you REALLY want to capture.
A: A place in our country called Batanes Island. It's a very magical place and was not infuenced by modernization even at this time.
- Underwater photography
That's two things. :)

7: When in doubt about your art, who do you confide in?
A: My Wife.

8: Qualifications/training in anything? ie: Photoshop
A: Have never had any formal training. All I learned was self-study, research thru the internet, trial and error and studying other people's work. So, sometimes, I've been told my style is unorthodox since I don't know the rules.

9: Plans for the future?
A: To visit other countries and capture their culture and hold an exhibit here in my own country.

10: In one word, describe your photography.
A: Unorthadox.
